Guidance on reading Misumi extrusion part numbers:

  • 2020-# = 20mmx20mm aluminum extrusion with length #mm
  • TPW = tapped both ends
  • RTP/LTP = tapped one end
  • LCP/RCP = criss-cross through-holes 10mm from the end
  • AV# = vertical through-hole #mm from the end
  • AH# = horizontal through-hole #mm from the end

Assembly Notes

There are two versions of the printed part “Frame Post Connector”: one for LDO extrusions and one for Misumi.

This works best on a granite surface or the flattest surface you’ve got. The use of a machinist’s square or dial guage is highly recommended to ensure squareness.

  • 0:08 Leave a ~3mm gap under the head of these M5x20 BHCS. The head needs to slide into the slot of the adjoining extrusion.
  • 0:20 This label is wrong. It should show “Extrusion 2020-325-RTP-LCP.” It is used as a reference for locating the front part of the gantry extrusion.
  • 0:56 The M5x80 Threaded Rod should bottom out at about 16mm into the top (short) extrusion. Don’t screw it in more than 16mm. The minimum is 9mm.
    • Here, it may be useful – but not necessary – to use an Extrusion 2020-370-TPW on top of the long horizontal extrusion, butted up against the front vertical extrusion to make a mark where the frame post connector should end when tightened.
  • 1:10 Extrusion 2020-370-TPW is used as a reference for locating the top part of the lower rear vertical extrusion.
  • 1:20 The upper extrusion is also 2020-370-TPW.
  • 1:43 Extrusions are all 2020-370-TPW.

At this point, you really want to make sure your frame is square. Measure and make adjustments as needed. The diagonals for the top and bottom square should measure 523.3mm (+/-1).
