Guidance on reading Misumi extrusion part numbers:
- 2020-# = 20mmx20mm aluminum extrusion with length #mm
- TPW = tapped both ends
- RTP/LTP = tapped one end
- LCP/RCP = criss-cross through-holes 10mm from the end
- AV# = vertical through-hole #mm from the end
- AH# = horizontal through-hole #mm from the end
Steps
This works best on a granite surface or the flattest surface you got. The use of a machinist’s square or dial guage is highly recommended to ensure squareness.
1. Assemble the right and left sides of the frame first
- Screw the M5x16 button heads into the tapped holes on the ends of the extrusions (that have them) leaving a 2.5mm gap.
- Slide the joining extrusions onto the button heads. Tighten through the through-hole.
- Tighten the short top rear vertical extrusions (2020-120-RTP-LCP) a quarter turn passed snug on the M5x80 threaded studs.
2. Attach the sides together
- Make sure the cutout in the printed parts are facing out.
- Attach the bottom extrusions
- Attach the rear extrusion
- Attach the front top extrusion
- Attach the rear top extrusion using the hidden L-brackets
This extrusion is intentionally 1mm shorter, so as not to overconstrain and bend the frame. This helps the linear rails lay nicely against the vertical rear posts
You really want to make sure your frame is square at this point. Measure and make adjustments as needed. The diagnoals for the top and bottom square should measure 523.3mm (+/-1)
